Peru has been one of the most popular places to Teach English in Latin America for several years now. Our Latin American programs have always been popular with those looking to improve their Spanish skills, or just have an authentic experience in this beautiful and fascinating region of the world. Most participants in Peru opt to take advantage of our homestay option during the four week TESOL training and certification course, living with a local family for the duration of the course. A homestay is a great way to fully immerse yourself in the culture of your new surroundings, brush up on your Spanish skills, and enjoy some authentic local cuisine while earning your TESOL certificate and preparing to Teach English Abroad.
We just heard from David, a current LanguageCorps teacher in Cusco, Peru. He writes about the slower, simpler pace of life in Peru, and loves his new job as an EFL teacher! As David says, teaching English in Latin America probably isn’t going to make your rich, but if you’re looking for an authentic cultural experience, and living simply sounds good to you, then Peru might be your destination.
“(My pay) is enough for rent and to live a humble life, generally things are cheaper in Peru so the pay is enough to get by. Other than that living in Peru is slow and simple. Life moves slower here than other places that I have lived, and teaching has been wonderful. I love my job and I love the clients that I have worked with. Things are going well, and I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to enrich my life.”
