Did you know that NOV 12-16 is International Education Week?
This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is a chance to celebrate the benefits or International education and exchange worldwide. While LanguageCorps is not a study abroad program, we participate in international education and exchange by helping people to teach English abroad, and we believe that an understanding of other cultures is incredibly important to the development of a healthy society in our increasingly globalized world.
It’s especially nice to see the US government give some love to the importance of meaningful travel. After an exceptionally tumultuous election season, in which we heard about nothing but a seemingly endless stream American pessimism, it’s incredibly refreshing to hear from the state department about the importance of venturing beyond US borders in order to achieve a higher plane of personal growth and development.
So kudos to the State Department! It’s important that in addition to striving to make the US the best country it can be, we remember that there is an entire world out there, and that there is a lot to be learned beyond our own borders.
