Housing & Communication
During training, optional accommodations are available in either homestays or private apartments located near the school. After training, you will most likely rent a room in an apartment or house with other students or Ticos (local Costa Ricans). Most Teachers find that room and board for an individual costs approximately $300-$400 per month.
International calling cards or local prepaid telephone cards are used to make international calls. Telephone cards are sold at many kiosks and newsstands. The cards may be used in either public phones (common in Costa Rica) or private phones simply by calling the company indicated on the card (long-distance operators typically speak English and Spanish). There are affordable Internet cafés in the larger towns and in the San Jose area a number of cafés and restaurants provide free wireless access.
