Teaching English in Czech Republic

Food & Clothing

Czech cuisine is generally hearty, emphasizing potatoes and pork. You will certainly also have chances to try knedlik, dumplings of wheat or potato flour covered in gravy, and zeli (cabbage). Sauces tend to be quite sweet, with caraway and poppy rivaling sugar in many.

Vegetarians who are not devotees of root vegetables (onions, beets, carrots, etc.) and marinated greens will struggle with traditional Czech cuisine. Beer aficionados, on the other hand, will rejoice in the variety and quality of the Czech national beverage.

Participants are responsible for their own meals.

Dress codes in Prague balance between Western-European-casual and Eastern-European-dapper. When teaching, be sure to adhere to the local working culture and basic ideas of professionalism. Business Casual is a safe bet. Outside of the classroom, Smart Casual will get you far; neatness and style can trump tradition.
