Job Prospects & Pay:

Most EFL students in Rio are professionals who need to improve their English for their jobs. They are typically highly motivated, accomplished, eager to learn and rewarding to teach. Most classes in Rio are very small: with 1-3 students. Peak hiring season is March through August. You should earn enough teaching English in Brazil to live comfortably, although you probably will not be able to add much to your savings.

Many English teachers in Brazil arrange language-tutoring exchanges, trading English classes for Portuguese instruction. We highly recommend this tactic!
